    Description

U.S. Civil War Federal Eagle Cartridge Box Breast Plate 2-1/2 in "Big Feathers" Found at a estate sale so no knowledge of location. I Called it
"Big Feathers" Since it has larger feathers on wings (harder to find when looking on internet.... but is it rare?). Iron loops gone, nice patina on front. Lead showing in spots. Left as found.
This nice piece being offered, it is an original Civil War Eagle Breast Plate. It would have adorned the leather shoulder sling of a Civil War soldier’s cartridge box. It has the bold Union eagle on the brass face of the plate. The eagle has the arrows of war in one of her talons and the other talon has the laurel branches of peace.
The back of the plate has all the original lead remaining. Both iron loops that would have affixed the plate to the cartridge box shoulder strap are still gone. This plate has a beautiful aged patina to the brass.
