One of the great safety inventions from NASCAR racing is the Roush Ignition Interrupter System which is used to stop the engine from running during a crash. This system was designed to interrupt the ignition power when the engine manifold vacuum drops below a certain set point and the brake line pressure exceeds a certain set point. During a race, the driver will use the left foot for braking and when there is a circumstance of wide open throttle (foot to the floor) and the brakes are applied with a certain force (above the pressure set point) the ignition will cut off to protect the driver from a run away situation. This type system has been used in NASCAR racing for years and has proven to be a very useful safety device
